Kevin Hurn: A Tribute

Kevin Hurn was a lovely and kindly man, who was genuinely interested in the natural environment. We know how much he did to support Wymondham as councillor, mayor and in his personal capacity.
We had the benefit of his advice and support from the very start of Greening Wymondham in 2015. He backed raising funds to surface the path through Kett’s Park Wood, and the employment by the council of Norwich Fringe Project to lead the volunteers in the work to open up the wood.
As Chairman of the Wymondham Heritage Society, he was keenly interested on the restoration and opening to the public of Moot Hill and enjoyed being shown the site by Greening Wymondham volunteers. Sadly, too late for Kevin to enjoy it, plans are under discussion for its acquisition by a Trust.
Kevin took on board our suggestion that the path through Becketswell Park should be resurfaced. Later he walked round the park with us looking at what else we were suggesting and presented our ideas to Wymondham Town Council, which then voted to clear the pond and obtain advice from the Norfolk Wildlife Trust on the management of the whole park.
Kevin also walked with us around the town centre looking at the areas where we suggested improvements, which is culminating in the current Public Realm proposals.
Many of these projects might have floundered or been interminably delayed without his considered support and political experience as a local councillor.
Another time he met some of us informally in a garden, and talked through a lot of our ideas, helping us understand how best to turn our plans into reality.
His death is untimely and Wymondham’s loss. We offer sincere condolences to his wife, Sharron, who shared his interests. We shall miss him.
