RECENT RIVER TIFFEY TESTING

The River Tiffey is not a bathing water so is not monitored by the Environment Agency. Escheria coli (E.coli) is mostly harmless in the environment but some pathogenic strains do exist that can cause illness if ingested.

The Environment Agency says anything above 9 colony forming units per millilitre (cfu/ml) makes for poor bathing water quality.*

Anyone using the river does so at their own risk. But if you do use the Tiffey, make sure you cover any cuts or grazes, and wash your hands before you eat.

In the summer months Greening Wymondham test the river above Damgate Bridge and below Becketswell Bridge weekly. Our results only reflect the E.coli levels when we took the samples: they take 24 hours to process

*Greening Wymondham tests one millilitre; the Environment Agency tests 10 millilitres – so express theirs in cfu/centilitre. Their Bathing Water level for poor bathing water quality is 90cfu/cl. Their process gives a bigger picture, but requires laboratory processing.
